Every person carries fat differently. For some people, no matter how hard they work out or how much weight they lose, they still will have a “double chin.” Age and heredity play a key part in whether or not some people have a double chin; the accumulation of fat under the chin can make even the fittest person look out of shape and detract from their natural beauty. Kybella injections offer a minimally invasive, nonsurgical way to help patients get a slim, defined chin. Dr. Leo Lapuerta is a triple-board-certified plastic surgeon who has two decades of experience and expertise with Kybella, helping patients in Houston, Katy, and Pearland, Texas, get rid of their double chin and look their very best.

What are Kybella Injections?
Kybella is a one-of-a-kind, nonsurgical treatment to eliminate submental fullness, also known as a double chin. At The Plastic Surgery Institute of Southeast Texas, we provide adults over the age of 18 with Kybella treatment. Kybella results in a drastically improved appearance with no painful surgery and no downtime. Dr. Lapuerta offers this injectable as an alternative to neck liposuction to reduce the fat that can accumulate under the chin.
Many people who receive Kybella injections are not overweight, but they cannot reduce the fullness with a healthy diet and exercise alone. With the help of deoxycholic acid, the active ingredient in Kybella, patients can eliminate stored fat under the chin in just a few sessions over the span of around six months.
Kybella Treatment Candidates
The ideal Kybella treatment candidate is an individual who has submental fullness (a double chin) even though they are at or near their ideal body weight within their body mass index. The patient may have dieted and exercised, yet despite their best efforts, the double chin remains. Candidates should also not plan on gaining weight in the future, as significant weight gain can reverse Kybella results.
Anyone considering Kybella should also have a good understanding of the expected outcome of the treatment. During a consultation prior to Kybella treatment, Dr. Lapuerta will clearly communicate to the patient exactly what to expect. Dr. Lapuerta makes a concentrated effort to make sure he is speaking in a relatable and down-to-earth manner so that the patient understands exactly what to expect before, during, and after Kybella injections.
What to Expect from Kybella
After the consultation, the first injection session will begin with the area under the chin being cleansed. Next, Dr. Lapuerta will carefully choose where the Kybella injections occur, making sure to target any area where a fatty pocket is present. Depending on the treatment plan for the individual, injections should take around 15 to 20 minutes to complete. Patients can expect to have slight bruising, temporary swelling, pain, numbness, and/or redness in the injection area.
We recommend that patients have 4 – 6 treatment sessions, which will be based on how much submental fat is under the chin. Every patient should plan to have an injection session once a month (with a maximum of 6 sessions).
Kybella Results
Kybella is an incredibly effective cosmetic treatment, helping patients get the results they desire without having to undergo an invasive surgical procedure. Kybella results in a noticeable reduction in fat under the chin, giving patients a clearly defined chin and jawline. Patients will also notice that they have an enhanced under-chin profile. While most patients notice impressive results after six months of treatment, it is important to have realistic expectations. Not all patients experience the same results, and during a consultation Dr. Lapuerta will make sure to educate the patient about the range of expected outcomes following Kybella treatment.
Expected Kybella Cost
The expected Kybella cost will depend on the number of injections and treatment sessions needed to get the desired result. Most of our Kybella treatment patients receive multiple injections during a session, and have them consistently once a month for six months. The plastic surgeon will discuss Kybella cost, and how many injections will be needed to accomplish a slimmer profile at the first consultation. During the consultation, Dr. Lapuerta will partner with the patient to determine how to best reach their goals. Once a treatment plan is agreed upon, the patient will be provided with the expected Kybella cost.
