Learn The Different Types of BBL Shapes
The Brazilian Butt Lift, or the BBL, is one of the most popular forms of plastic surgery out there. Patients love how the BBL works as a “two-for-one” procedure, as it both adds volume to the buttocks while also sculpting and trimming another part of the body. This method allows for a massive transformation in one fell swoop.
However, potential BBL patients should know that not all Brazilian Butt Lift results are the same. In fact, there are a variety of BBL shapes and results. These varying results will depend on the personal goals of the client. The technique which a surgeon utilizes for a BBL procedure will be determined by the type of shape the client naturally has, as well as their desired outcome.
If you are considering trying a Brazilian Butt Lift, it’s a good idea to first identify what you ultimately want your butt to look like. This is where shape comes in. First, figure out what the natural shape of your rear is, and from there you can start pinning down which of the BBL shapes will work best with your proportions. Our guide to different types of BBL shapes and results is a great starting point for your research.
Classic Pre-BBL Types and Shapes
Bums are a bit like snowflakes: each one is unique and different! That being said, most natural, pre-BBL bottoms tend to fall under one of the following four categories:
Inverted or V-Shaped Butt
The V-shaped butt doesn’t have a lot of volume in the lower buttocks, and is generally accompanied by a fuller abdominal area. Bums with this shape tend to be on the “flatter” side, and resemble an inverted triangle. Patients with an inverted or V-shaped butt sometimes opt for a BBL in order to better fill their jeans and bring more volume to their behind. Generally, these procedures use some of the extra fat from the abdominal area or the thighs for injection into the bum. For most patients with an inverted shaped bum, a round/bubble shaped butt is the ideal surgical goal.
Square or H-Shaped Butt
A square, or H-shaped bum is, like a V-shape, a bit flat. Also like the V-shape, those with a square bum tend to have a fuller abdominal area. However, unlike the V-shape, a square butt tends to be less angular and more boxy. This can be frustrating for those with this shape, as it can be difficult to find clothing which properly fits both a larger belly and a flatter bum. Generally, those with a square shaped rear opt to harvest fat from their abdominal area and flanks for this procedure. The most common result goal for a BBL candidate with a square bum tends to be the heart, or A-shape.
Heart or A-Shaped Butt
A heart, or A-shaped bottom, is considered one of the more conventionally desirable types of butts out there. Individuals with a naturally occurring A-shaped behind also often have a traditional hourglass figure: slim waist and wide hips. Many BBL candidates have a heart-shaped bum as their goal when going into their procedure. However, plenty of folks with a naturally-given heart shaped butt still opt for a BBL, as it enhances what they were born with. This can result in an even lusher behind than before!
Round or O-Shaped Butt
The round, O-shaped behind is often fondly referred to as a “bubble butt.” This shape is known for its trademark curvy shape, which comes from a set of full hips and plenty of volume. Those with a bubble butt often opt for a BBL procedure, as it helps enhance their naturally round features.
Now that we’ve gone over your pre-procedure butt shape, let’s look at what kinds of BBL shapes can be achieved by surgery. Be sure to ask your doctor for their input based on your individual body type and medical history.
Heart Shape or A-Shaped BBL
Those who are hoping for a traditional hourglass silhouette often opt for a heart-shaped result with their BBL. A heart, or A-shaped result will feature round, yet gentle curves in the hips along with plenty of volume in the bum.
Round, Bubble, O-Shaped BBL
A round, or bubble-shaped behind is a more dramatic result than the heart-shape. Those who opt for a bubble butt as their BBL result generally enjoy a noticeably round and shapely end-result (think Kim K or J-Lo).
BBL Terms to Know
Once you’ve chosen your ideal among the types of BBL shapes, it’s time to book a consultation with your plastic surgeon of choice. Going into your consultation, it’s helpful for you to be informed and up-to-date about what a Brazilian Butt Lift involves, and what the terminology surrounding it actually means. This will make your consultation easier for you to navigate and will help you to make the right choice for your unique circumstances and anatomy. Your doctor, of course, is also there to provide expertise, guidance, and a professional recommendation on what the best shape and procedure will be for your body.
Here are a few of the most commonly used terms in the BBL sphere:
- BBL Volume
Volume has a number of meanings, but when in reference to a BBL or other forms of plastic surgery, it is referring to fullness in a body part. So, if you have a V-shaped bum, and undergo a BBL procedure, you’ll likely be adding volume to your behind.
- BBL Projection
A buttocks projection refers to how much one’s behind pokes out. This is generally in relation to their other bodily proportions, as outlined below.
- Buttock Size to Waist Ratio
A number of BBL candidates decide their ideal projection size by determining what butt to waist ratio will best suit them. This is all about proportions — after all, a medium-sized butt will look outlandishly enormous on somebody tiny! If you are unsure of how to find your unique proportional balance, your surgeon will be able to help during your consultation.
